Nearly all international flights to Iceland land at this airport, with about 95% of all international flights arriving at Keflavik Airport. It is Icelandair’s main hub, and if you book a flight with this airline to a destination in the USA or Canada, you will always have a stopover in Iceland.
Iceland’s international airport is located 3.1 kilometers west of the village of Keflavik and about 50 kilometers southwest of Reykjavik. Icelandair offers daily flights year-round from Amsterdam Schiphol to Keflavik International Airport. Icelandair also operates several flights per week year-round from Brussels and during the summer months from Düsseldorf to Iceland.
When booking an economy standard ticket with Icelandair, you can take one checked bag up to 23 kg and one carry-on bag up to 10 kg. Onboard, you have 81 cm of legroom. It’s also possible to fly economy light at a lower cost, though this doesn’t include checked baggage. Additionally, you can choose the more expensive Economy Comfort or Saga classes, which offer more legroom and extras such as priority boarding and increased baggage allowances.
Most classes onboard have free access to the in-flight entertainment system, featuring a variety of popular movies and series on a seatback screen. Meals and snacks are not included in Icelandair tickets and must be purchased separately onboard. However, this isn’t a major issue since the flight to Iceland takes only about three hours, and there are plenty of dining options available at the airports before and after your flight.
During peak season, Icelandair operates two daily flights from Schiphol to Iceland. From Iceland, there are two direct flights daily to Amsterdam Schiphol during the peak season. There are also several flights available with a stopover, but these are generally not as attractive due to longer travel times and often higher prices. Flight FI500 departs at 07:40 local time from Keflavik International Airport and arrives at 13:00 at Schiphol. The second direct flight, FI506, departs from Keflavik International Airport at 07:50 and arrives at Schiphol at 12:55.

Domestic Flights in Iceland
Despite being a relatively small country, Iceland offers a variety of domestic flights from Reykjavik. This is primarily due to the difficulty of reaching many parts of Iceland by regular car and the considerable distances one must travel to get from the west to the east of the country. Additionally, travel times to other Icelandic cities during winter months can be significantly longer because many roads become difficult to navigate due to snow and/or ice.
Domestic flights are particularly advantageous if you have a short stay in Iceland and wish to explore areas beyond Reykjavik. For instance, while driving from Reykjavik to Akureyri takes nearly five hours under normal weather conditions, a flight takes only 45 minutes.
Availability of Domestic Flights in Iceland
Several domestic flights are available in Iceland, with most departing from Reykjavik’s regional airport (Reykjavik Airport). For example, you can fly from Reykjavik to Akureyri in the north of Iceland in 45 minutes, or from Reykjavik to Isafjordur in the Westfjords.
